Leigh Maniscalco was part of 26 of Gorham’s 42 points at Saturday’s Class A state track meet, giving the Rams a solid fifth place in the field of 24 teams.

The sophomore’s exploits included winning a state title in the 300-meter hurdles, edging out top seed Lindsay Soule of South Portland.

“I was nervous because I had all my events going on at once,” said Maniscalco, “but I really wanted to win (the hurdles), and I wanted to get a (personal best) because I’ve been working to break 47 seconds. I almost did.”

Her time in the hurdles of 47.16 was almost a half-second better than her seed time. Maniscalco also finished second in the pole vault and was part of the runner-up 4 x 100 relay quartet, which included Alyson Fearon and sisters Melanie and Chanelle Hallsworth.

Fearon was also third in the 100m dash and fifth in the 200m run. Corey Perkins took fourth in the triple jump, Kristi Hall finished sixth in the race walk and Katherine Cyr was seventh in the triple jump.

Bonny Eagle junior Katherine Pagano collected 10 of her team’s 12 points at the meet, which was suspended a week earlier due to rain and wind and moved from Thornton Academy to Bowdoin College.

Pagano finished third in the 3,200m and fourth in the 1,600m. Classmate Amber Cronin gathered the Scots’ other two points with a sixth-place finish in the high jump.

Erin Murphy was Westbrook’s best chance to score at states, but an injury forced the freshman to sit out. She had been seeded fourth in the 100m hurdles and also qualified for the meet in the long jump and triple jump.
