In state primary voting in the governor’s race on June 13, Gorham Republicans chose Peter Mills as their nominee and Democrats overwhelmingly picked Gov. John Baldacci.

Mills, who went to Gorham High School, tallied 284 votes, defeating Chandler Woodcock who had 210 votes and David Emery, 136, in a three-way race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in Gorham. Mills, who captured all three wards and central, narrowly edged Woodcock 52-50 in Ward 3 at the middle school and nipped Emery at Central. 17-16.

Democrats favored the incumbent Baldacci 238-63 over challenger Christopher Miller for their gubernatorial nomination. Baldacci handily swept the three wards and central in Gorham.

In a contested race for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senator, Eric Mehnert bested Jean Hay Bright 168 to 115. Mehnert took the three wards and central.
