Westbrook Mayor Bruce Chuluda is the new commander of Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 of the American Legion.

In an induction ceremony held June 7, Chuluda was sworn in before about 40 members of the post and their wives.

“I’m honored to have been voted to be post commander for the Manchester Post for the next year and will do my very best to uphold the responsibilities of the office,” Chuluda said in a later interview. “My father was in the Navy and I have the flag given to me after his death framed in my sunroom, constantly reminding me of his service and that of others both before and after him.”

Chuluda served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard for about eight years, achieving the rank of captain. Chuluda replaces Patrick Peoples as commander. Other newly installed officers are William Holmes as first vice commander, Edward Senechal as second vice commander, Robert Harnois as chaplain, Ralph Green as sergeant-at-arms, Allen Beem as Americanism officer, and Darryl Wright as finance officer.

Also installed last Wednesday were the post auxiliary officers. Newly installed officers are Mary Lou Chretian as president, Nikki Nielsen as vice president and treasurer, Marie Carroll as secretary, Doris Rodriguez as chaplain, and Carol Reynolds as sergeant.
