Golf tournament to benefit Westbrook Housing

Golfers from Westbrook and throughout southern Maine will tee off Sept. 15 at Sable Oaks Golf Course in South Portland for the Second Annual Senior Dreams Golf Benefit sponsored by Westbrook Services Corporation.

The event, which gets underway at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start, raises funds to assist the needs of senior and disabled residents of Westbrook Housing communities. Westbrook Services Corporation, the fundraising arm of Westbrook Housing, assists with transportation and social services for residents.

“With funding uncertainty at both the federal and state level, we find ourselves constantly scrambling, much like this event, for enough dollars to provide the transportation and support services that will allow our frail and disabled residents to remain physically and mentally healthy and able to maintain independent living,” said Susan Eldridge, deputy director of Westbrook Housing.

Last year’s event generated nearly $5,000, and Eldridge would like to double that amount this year. In addition to golfers, both individuals and teams, the tournament is still in need of sponsors at all levels.

“Participants, both golfers and sponsors, can have a great afternoon on the golf course, all the while making a difference in the lives of elderly and disabled residents of Westbrook Housing,” said Eldridge.

Letter to Sports

The Windham Little League is entered into a contest to win free lighting for its Lowell Farm baseball field. Many Westbrook parents of Little Leaguers will be familiar with it because we had district and state tournaments there this summer.

We also know the people of Westbrook are passionate about and proud of the successes of their own Little League baseball players. We are hoping in the interest of neighborhood camaraderie that you will help our kids share our passion in trying to get those lights.
