What a finale; the schedule makers got this one right. The SMAA’s two remaining unbeaten teams; the traditional power versus the new guys; a balanced attack against a run-run-run offense; Scots versus Rams. Anyway you look at it, this one is big. The winner gets the No. 1 seed and home field throughout the playoffs.

Like Bonny Eagle, Gorham has beaten both Portland and Deering but until proven otherwise the road to Class A glory goes through Buxton – home of the two time defending state champions – and not The Big City.

Bonny Eagle quarterback Ryan Walker sat out last week’s Deering game with a separated shoulder but sophomore Nate Doehler filled in admirably with two touchdown passes.

“Ryan has been cleared to practice but we are still working with doctors as to the extent of his ability to play Friday night,” said Bonny Eagle coach Kevin Cooper on Wednesday.

Prediction: Gorham 35, Bonny Eagle 28, but they’ll meet again

Windham (2-5) @ Westbrook (1-5) Friday 7 p.m.

Westbrook’s season has been a challenge since before the first game, but if one game, one win, could make it all go away this one is it. The playoffs are out of the question for Westbrook, so this is the final home game for its 11 seniors.

Windham is riding the momentum of a 28-14 win over Cheverus last week and has looked strong against some of the state’s top teams. The ground attack of Nate Johnson and Dan Marvonek ran all over the Stags as the Eagles opened up a 28-0 lead.

Prediction: Windham 35, Westbrook 6
