The Southwestern Maine Activities Association recently announced their 2006 boys soccer all-star team and the West A regional champs from Scarborough had plenty of honorees.

Gorham had four first team all-star selections: Kyle Perkins (back), Jake Brown (midfield), Joel Mundy (forward) and Zach Stover (forward) were all chosen based on their stellar play this fall helping the Rams reach the West A regional semifinals. And Gorham’s Kyle Donaldson (back) was a second team all-star.

Westbrook was also well represented on this year’s honor roll with Eben Perkins (back) and Travis Rand (midfield) making the first team and Galen Perkins (goalkeeper) getting a second team selection. In addition, Brian Cooke (forward) and Zack Johnson (forward) were both picked as honorable mention all-stars.

Nate Jewell (senior midfielder) of Bonny Eagle was an honorable mention.

The all-academic team included Frederick Lamontagne and Joshua Maxwell of Gorham, Eben Perkins and Travis Rand of Westbrook, and Nathan Jewell and Evan Semle of Bonny Eagle.

Other first team selections included: Phil Lambert (back), Cody Powers (midfield) and Eddie Jones (forward) of Scarborough; Brian Pearsall of Sanford; Chris Gassman (back) and Jeff Dube (forward) of Kennebunk; and Tony Yeboah (midfield) of Deering.

The second team all-stars also included: Tyler Tait (back), Brent Mayo (midfield) and Buddy Reid (forward) of Scarborough; Endy Carrera (forward) of South Portland; Chad Boucher of Thornton; Joe Caiazzo (back) of Cheverus; Anthony Passmore (back) and Chris Urban (forward) of Portland; Dylan O’Connor (midfield) of Windham; and Conor Fin (forward) of Kennebunk.

Honorable Mention selections included: Adam Blanchard (goalkeeper) and Jason Philbrook (midfield) of Scarborough; Will Furbush (midfield) of South Portland; Mike Cronin of Thornton; Cory Gratello of Biddeford; Kyle Blaylock (back), Pat Somma (back) and Kuba Rucinski (midfield) of Deering; Malcolm Macomber (back) of Cheverus; Nate Jewell (midfield) of Bonny Eagle; Adam Cole (forward) of Marshwood; Kirk Jurgelevich (forward) of Portland; and Eric Walton (forward) of Windham.

The SMAA Coach of the Year was Nate Bean of Kennebunk.
