As Scarborough continues to grow, the demand for services at the town’s public library increases, as well. The Scarborough Public Library’s 2007 Annual Appeal addresses this by raising funds for programs, collection materials and emerging technology.
“The library and staff are constantly searching for ways to meet the needs of our growing community,” said Lenore Rapkin, president of the library board of trustees. “Scarborough is a vibrant community, and it deserves a library that reflects the range of interests of its population. The annual appeal helps our library fulfill this mission.”
Recent estimates put the town’s population at 18,989. As a result, the library relies more heavily on donations to the annual fund to supplement its annual budget.
“It is important for the library to remind people that the appropriation provided by the town does not represent the entire operating budget. The fund supplements the town’s contribution and reduces the impact on the property taxpayer,” said Nancy Crowell, library director
