The Westbrook American reported in its issue of Wednesday, March 28, 1956, that Frank E. Hoyt and M. Lenwood Royal were both seeking the Republican nomination in the June primary to represent Gorham in legislature. Hoyt had been a longtime town treasurer, former postmaster and had completed a year as selectman.
