Police are still seeking the man armed with a kitchen knife, who robbed cash from the register of the Big Apple convenience store at 90 Main St. in Gorham last Friday evening. The robbery was the second in a week for the convenience store.
At approximately 6 p.m. Friday, a white man described as a little over 5 feet tall with blond hair, green eyes and cleanly shaved face, wearing a green jacket and jeans entered the Big Apple.
The man purchased an item and, while the clerk was giving the man his change, he brandished a kitchen-type knife and leaned over the counter and took money out of the cash register. He then fled on foot in an unknown direction. Gorham Police Detective David Bruni is investigating.
In a similar incident just two days earlier at the same store, a robber armed with a knife threatened a clerk at the store, then fled the store with a Muscular Dystrophy donations canister after he couldn’t get money from a register.
According to Big Apple clerks, the robber had demanded money from the cash register. The clerk on duty at the time apparently told the robber the register was computerized and wouldn’t open without a sale. The robber grabbed a toe warmer from a display near the register and tried to ring it in.
The robber banged on the computer, attempting to open the cash drawer unsuccessfully. After several attempts, the robber left with the canister of donations instead. The amount of cash in the stolen canister is unknown.
For the Dec. 27 robbery, police are looking for a white male in his late teens or early 20s. The robber is described as 6 feet and weighing about 210 pounds. Gorham Police Detective Lawrence Maxfield-Fearon is investigating.
