Brofee birthday kids
Dylan Brofee will turn 8 on Sunday, Jan. 21, while his sister, Brooke Brofee, 5, celebrated her birthday on Dec. 3.
They are the children of Stephen and Corinna Brofee; grandparents are Mike and Sharon Lachance along with David and Marilyn Brofee, all of Westbrook.
Historians to hear Mitchell
Christi Mitchell of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission will speak when the Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, in its headquarters at 17B Dunn St.
Mitchell will show slides and talk about the national register of historic landmarks. Mitchell will explain the process involved in naming a historic site to the federal register list.
Luce on SMCC dean’s list
Ryan L. Luce has been named to the dean’s list at Southern Maine Community College.
Luce is the son of Judy and Bill Luce of Westbrook. Grandparents are Larry and Louise Inman of Westbrook and Gloria and Richard Luce of Cape Elizabeth.
Cutter excels at Stonehill
Andrew Cutter has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass.
Cutter is a member of the class of 2009.
Academic honors for Broaddus
Aaron Broaddus made the dean’s list for the fall semester at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.
Broaddus is the son of Andy and Jackie Broaddus.
A sophomore, Broaddus is majoring in business. He is a 2005 graduate of Westbrook High School.
Metro hearings reminder
Westbrook citizens will have an opportunity Monday, Jan. 22, to voice concerns about proposed changes of Metro’s route 4.
Public hearings will be held 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at Walker Memorial Library.
Volunteer cooks needed
The senior citizens’ meal on Thursdays at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., needs cooks.
Because of a shortage of cooks, the weekly meals program has been cut recently to two Thursdays a month. An average of 90 to 100 meals are usually served.
Those wishing to volunteer should contact Roy Leighton at 854-4343.
Chamber talks Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement of Maine is the topic at the next Westbrook Community Chamber lunch, Wednesday, Jan. 31, from noon – 1:30 p.m., at the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.
Junior Achievement is a nonprofit economic-education organization bringing volunteers from the community into the classroom to teach students about business and personal economics. The programs contain lesson plans that are easy for volunteers to deliver and plenty of hands-on activities to help make learning fun and effective for students.
