The Westbrook High ice hockey team won its sixth game in a row and improved to 7-2 on the season with last Saturday’s 4-0 shutout victory over Massabesic/OOB in Biddeford. The Blazes scored twice in the first period and two more times in the second period to push past the Seastangs.

Westbrook goal scorers were Tyler Rand, Shayne Nealey, Matt Buotte and Devan Rodrigue. The Blazes also picked up assists from Matt Foye, Buotte, Zach Johnson, Joe Cloutier, and Justin Dube.

Freshman goalie Dane Tupper made eight saves to earn the win.

The Blazes also shut down Deering on Wednesday, Jan. 10, for a 3-0 win over the Rams. Goals from Johnson, Cloutier and Chris Marston were more than enough to provide Westbrook with another victory.

Westbrook goalie turned away 31 shots for the shutout win.

The Blazes are currently ranked seventh in the West A Heal Point standings as teams reach the halfway mark of the 18-game regular season.

The Blazes were scheduled to travel to Sanford last night and they’ll host Portland on Saturday afternoon.

Gorham is only 3-8 on the season, but the Rams have moved up to No. 8 in the latest West A Heal Points standings.

On Saturday, a strong Greely squad handed the Rams a 6-3 setback. The Rangers had a 3-0 lead in the early moments of the second period before Gorham stormed back with three straight goals to send the teams to the final period in a 3-3 deadlock.

Greely scored a pair of goals midway through that third period and they added an empty-netter to secure the win.

Gorham’s David Gushee had all three of the Rams’ goals. Justin Grandmaison assisted on two of the scores and Brendan Ryan and Chris Roop also picked up assists.

Gorham won its third game of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 10, with a 9-5 victory against Portland.

The Rams led 5-2 after two periods and then poured it on with four more goals in the final 15 minutes to win going away.

Gorham’s goal scorers included Gushee (5), Alexander Dahms (3), and Peter Mathieu.

Bonny Eagle earned its first shutout of the season on Saturday with a 5-0 win at Marshwood. The Scots used a pair of goals from Travis Dunn and single goals from Nate Jewell, Kayle Hamilton and Joe Mendes to pull away from the Hawks.

The Scots are 8-2 on the season and they sit in the No. 6 spot in the West A Heal Point standings.

Bonny Eagle hosted South Portland on Wednesday evening and they’ll entertain Massabesic/OOB on Saturday.
