Many shipwrecks have occurred along the shores of Cape Elizabeth. The stories of these ill-fated vessels will be revealed this Monday at the Thomas Memorial Library.

At 7:30 p.m. in the library’s community room, Wayne Brooking of the Cape Elizabeth Historical Preservation Society will tell the tales of both well-known and lesser-known shipwrecks that occurred in Cape Elizabeth over the past two centuries.

“My ancestors were in the lifesaving services,” said Brooking, explaining his interest in the subject. He said that that his knowledge of the wrecks “comes from all over the place.” Brooking will be telling stories, showing slides and reading from old newspapers.

“Old ones don’t have pictures, so you have to use your imagination,” Brooking said.

The lecture is free, and refreshments will be served. Library membership is not required.
