Books, treats at library open house
The North Gorham Public Library, North Gorham Road, will host an open house Saturday, April 14.
Homemade pie and coffee will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and used books will be for sale. “Come and enjoy this treat,” said Virginia Rundell, librarian.

Gorham youth in Merrill show
Thirteen young Gorham musicians will perform with University of Southern youth ensembles in concert at 7:30 p.m. on April 10 in Merrill Auditorium in Portland.
The four ensembles participating are Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO), Portland Youth Wind Enseble (PYWE), Portland Youth Junior Orchestra (PYJO), and Portland Young People’s String Consort (PYPSC).
Gorham students, their ensembles and instruments are Thomas Bennett, PYWE/PYSO, percussion; Megan Bilodeau, PYJO, violin; Mackenzie Crosby, PYWE/PYSO, percussion; Angela Doxsey, PYSO, violin; Katelyn Haluzak, PYPSC, violin; Sara Martin, PYPSC, violin; Jessica Portlock, PYWE/PYSO, flute; Adrienne Rosenblatt, PYWE/PYSO, percussion; Aaron Seale, PYWE, trumpet; Vincent Smart, PYWE, percussion; Clara Stickney, PYPSC, violin; Emily Stickney, PYPSC, cello; and Jennie Wiacek, PYWE, clarinet.
Crosby is a student at Cheverus High School; Doxsey, Waynflete; Seale, Thornton Academy; Clara Stickney, home-schooled; and Haluzak and Emily Stickney are Gorham Middle School students. The others attend Gorham High School.
Suggested donation is $6; $3, seniors and children. A reception will follow the concert in the rehearsal room at Merrill Auditorium.

The School of Music at the university administers the youth program and is supported by a grant from the Sam. L. Cohen Foundation. Parents take their children to the campus one night each week during the school year to rehearse.
New great-grandson
Walter and Dawn Lewis of Gorham are great grandparents of Jace Benjamin Lewis, who was born on Oct. 12 last year.
Jace is the son of Benjamin and Meredith Lewis of East Hampton, Conn. Grandparents are Jerry and Judy Lewis of Hollis; Deanna Batstone, Sterling, Mass., and David and Denice Batstone of Norfolk, Mass.
U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of Public Debt reported on March 22 that the U.S. public debt was $8,832,682,505,866.52
