Gorham 8 Noble 5
The Gorham High boys lacrosse team opened its season with an 8-5 win over Noble on Tuesday afternoon. Brendan Ryan led the Rams’ attack with three goals and Duncan Allen added a pair of goals as well. Final score 8-5, Gorham.
Gorham netminder Brian Plowman finished the game with 11 saves.
“This was a good beginning for our season,” said Gorham coach Ken Templeton. “We controlled the ball fairly well, and our defense played very well. I was impressed with our ability to dictate to the offense where they would go and what they would do. The exception here was when we were man-down. Three of Noble’s goals came when we were in the penalty box, a statistic we have to clean up.
“Offensively, we attacked the goal aggressively and we got a lot of great opportunities. We just need to work on off-ball movement and finishing our shots. We play again at Biddeford on Friday, and we’re looking forward to working on these elements of our offense for that game.”
Bonny Eagle 11 Biddeford 3
The Bonny Eagle boys lacrosse team scored a confidence-building 11-3 win at Biddeford on Tuesday in the season opener for both clubs.
Jesse Doehler led the Scots with four goals and an assist; Zach Litif contributed at the offensive end with two goals and four assists; Kayle Hamilton scored two goals and he added an assist; and Justin Cary, Nehemiah Glavine, and Brett Dostie all chipped in with a goal apiece.
In addition, defenseman Adam Theriault led team with seven ground balls and midfielder Curran McGarry did a super job winning 16 of 17 face-offs.
Marco Stefano started in goal and he played the first three quarters making six saves on nine shots. Curtis Dyer manned the net in for fourth quarter and he finished with one save.
“The team played terrific defense over the entire field at even strength,” said Bonny Eagle coach Nat Germond. “The three goals scored against were all on Biddeford’s extra-man offense, so we obviously need to be smarter with regard to taking penalties.
“Curran McGarry was exceptional on face-offs winning 16 out of 17 which is a huge possession advantage,” said Germond. “We will need to work on our man-down defense looking to our game this Friday (the home opener against Thornton Academy).”
