The Scarborough entries in the 2007 Southern Maine Kids Travel Baseball League will hold a tryout/evaluation session Sunday, May 6, at 4 p.m. in Scarborough.

The purpose of the tryouts/evaluations are to help the Scarborough team administrators choose equal teams of players and abilities for both the 7- and 8-year-old division, and the 9- and l0-year-old division. The league had player registrations in Scarborough at the police station during the first week of February. Players can still register through the tryout week, but will be assessed a $25 penalty fee.

In the first year of play (2006), Scarborough had two teams in the 7- and 8-year-old division, and two teams in the 9- and l0-year-old division. Scarborough administrators expect to have the same amount of teams this summer.

Southern Maine Kids Travel Baseball is modeled after the successful travel soccer program that operates throughout southern Maine. In 2007, the league schedule will likely include teams from East Biddeford, West Biddeford, Ogunquit, South Portland, Scarborough and Wells.

The league has also had discussions about expanding the league with possible teams from Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gorham, Westbrook and Yarmouth.
