The driver of a pickup truck broke a utility pole while trying to avoid a collision with a tractor trailer in Gorham leading to the closure of Route 25 for about 30 minutes May 10.
“I just looked, and there he was,” said Gary Nelson about the tractor trailer driven by Gezim Kadiqi. Both were driving west on Route 25 in front of the West Gorham Fire Station.
Nelson said he tried to avoid hitting the 53-foot trailer Kadiqi was hauling to Hollis Center, but hit the pole instead. When the pole broke, a wire fell across the trailer.
Kadiqi said he was pulling into the firehouse parking lot and was surprised to see Nelson so close behind him. A third truck was also stopped on the left side of the road with the wire also stretched over the cab.
Police and firemen closed the road in both directions after the accident.
Gorham Fire Chief Robert Lefebvre said it took approximately 30 minutes to clear the scene. There were no injuries in the accident, and police said it was too early to determine if any drivers would be cited in the accident.
