The Gorham softball team earned a first round bye in the Western Maine Class A tournament thanks to their 11-5 regular season record. The No. 5 Rams were scheduled to take on No. 4 Deering in a regional quarterfinal on Thursday, June 7.

The winner of Thursday’s game will likely play at top-seeded and undefeated Scarborough on Saturday in a regional semifinal match-up.

Gorham lost to Deering, 6-1, earlier this season. Deering pitcher Lesley Warn allowed just three hits and one run for Deering in that game.

Last year Gorham was the seventh seed and won their prelim against Thornton Academy, but then lost to South Portland in the quarterfinals.

Scots ready for tourney play

The sixth-seeded Bonny Eagle softball team (10-6) was scheduled to host Marshwood in a West A preliminary round game on Wednesday, June 6. The Scots and Hawks got together earlier this year with the Scots coming out on top, 7-1.

The winner of that game was scheduled to take on third-seeded South Portland in a regioanal quarterfinal on Thursday, June 7. The Scots took on the Red Riots a few weeks ago with South Portland holding on for a 3-2 win.

Last year the Scots were the No. 3 seed in the tournament and advanced all the way to the semifinals where they lost to South Portland.
