The first time the Windham baseball team took on Westbrook, the Eagles scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a 14-2 win. The Eagles were scheduled to face those same Blue Blazes on Wednesday, June 6, in a Western Maine Class A prelim.

In their first meeting, the Eagles scored four runs in the fifth inning to grab a 5-2 lead. Then in the sixth, they scored nine more runs to put the game away as Zach Cantor and Nick DeRice each had a three-run homer in that pivotal inning.

The winner of Wednesday’s prelim will move on to face No. 2 Gorham in a regional quarterfinal scheduled for Thursday, June 7.

The last time the Eagles met Gorham, the Rams picked up a 4-0 win on the strength of Andrew Dean’s four-hitter. Last year, the Eagles did not qualify for the tournament, finishing with a record of 6-9.
