Mainely Bass Junior Bassmasters held its third tournament of the 2007 season on July 21. Members in the shore division competed in a catch, measure and release tournament at a private pond in Lyman. Beautiful weather and lots of cooperative fish made all of the anglers feel like winners. But when the scorecards were tallied, Alex Williamson of Gorham captured first place, catching 18 bass. Second place went to Hunter Beyea of Arundel with 13 bass and Jonathan Curran of Kennebunk caught 6 bass and a black crappie to finished third.

After the tournament, many of the anglers competed in a Bassmaster CastingKids contest. They flipped, pitched and cast to a bull’s-eye target earning points to determine the winner. In the 7-10 age group, Hunter Beyea of Arundel displayed his casting prowess to win first place. In the 11-14 age group, Chase Laflamme of East Waterboro, three time Bassmaster CastingKids state champion, showed his winning form to capture first place in a tie breaker cast-off over Nathan Hirsch of Hollis Center.

Beyea and Laflamme will both advance to the Bassmaster CastingKids State Championship in August.

Mainely Bass Junior Bassmasters is a fishing club for anglers age 6 to 18 which promotes and encourages youth fishing, sportsmanship and appreciation of our natural resources.
