A 22-year-old Buxton man was killed in a single-vehicle crash at 8:20 p.m. Friday on Turkey Lane in Buxton, police said.
Police Chief Jody Thomas said James K. Irish Jr., 52 Callahan Road, was traveling at an excessive rate of speed. Irish passed another vehicle traveling east just before the intersection with Henry Hill Road. Irish lost control of the car and hit a tree head on, police said.
Irish, who was born Oct. 1, 1984, was alone in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Cpl. Kimberly Emery investigated the crash.
Irish was the son of James K. Irish Sr. and Tina Marie Woodcock Irish of Buxton. He was a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School and Kennebec Community College.
Irish studied as a line worker technician, and he worked for White Brothers Construction in Westbrook. He also stocked shelves and coolers at the Buxton Mini Mart.
Irish was known as a hard worker. According to his family, he loved camping, friends, children and hunting with his father. His family said he had a good sense of humor and was easy going.
