A Buxton man is in York County jail today after being shot by a Cumberland County deputy sheriff in an incident Saturday night in Limington.

Capt. Jeff Davis of Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said Monday that Peter Ronfeldt, 28, faces a charge of criminal threatening with a firearm. Davis said additional charges might be filed.

Davis said Cumberland County Deputy Andrew Feeney responded to a call for assistance about 11:30 p.m. from York County in a domestic dispute involving a father and son. The complainant was Ronfeldt’s father, Alexander Ronfeldt, at 58 River Road, Limington.

Davis said Feeney responded to the incident as a back up for a York County deputy. He said Feeney confronted the son, who allegedly pointed a 12-gauge shotgun at Feeney.

Feeney fired, according to Davis, and Peter Ronfeldt, who was arrested, was transported to Maine Medical Center. A spokeswoman for the hospital said Monday that Ronfeldt had been discharged. No one else was injured in the incident, Davis said.

Feeney has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol, Davis said.

Davis said the incident is still under investigation.
