A Thanksgiving invite

The Pythian Sisters Narraganset Temple 111 is sponsoring the fourth annual free Thanksgiving dinner, noon-3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, at its headquarters on Long Plains Road (Route 22) in Buxton Center.

Joann Groder, a spokeswoman for the organization, said the meal would be turkey with all the fixings. “Don’t stay home alone, come join us,” said Groder, extending an invitation.

Groder said that 102 people were served last year and five dinners were delivered.

Feeney family fundraiser

There will be a fundraiser for the family of Frankie and Melissa Feeney on Saturday, Nov. 17 from noon to 7 p.m. at Skip’s Tavern on Narragansett Trail in Buxton.

Cathy Feeney of Buxton said her stepson, Frankie Feeney, was in a serious car accident on Sept. 30 that claimed the life of his brother, Daniel Perrin of Gorham. Frankie Feeney is still at Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.

Feeney, who married his wife Melissa in July, is facing more surgeries and a long stint of rehabilitation. The couple has no medical insurance.

The benefit will include raffles and a 50-50. A live band will play and food will be served, but those attending are encouraged to bring a dish to share.

“Everyone is welcome to attend and help this wonderful young couple,” Cathy Feeney said.

BEMS Phys Ed in university study

Bonny Eagle Middle School students are part of a study conducted by the University of Maine.

Students are tested periodically for aerobic fitness using a widely used testing tool called the Pacer, which involves walking/running successive lengths of the gym floor, gradually increasing the pace at regular intervals. The longer a student can keep pace with the test, the higher the score.

Scores are reported to the university with a number rather than a name to keep the information confidential. However, parents cam request an analysis of their child’s scores from the university through the physical education teacher. Once all the data is collected and analyzed over the next 12 months, the physical education department at the middle school will have valuable information for curriculum development and programming.
