A fire in a recreational vehicle closed exit 42 on the Maine Turnpike in Scarborough late Saturday afternoon.
The fire occurred at about 3:45 p.m. at the toll plaza at the exit. Two people escaped from the vehicle unharmed. The fire was extinguished quickly, but the vehicle was a total loss, according to Lt. Steve Sloan of the Scarborough Fire Department.
Several police officers responded along with two fire engines, one ambulance and a squad truck. The scene was cleared at 5:12 p.m. Names of occupants of the motor home were unavailable.
