A white cargo-style van caught fire while driving on East Bridge Street Wednesday afternoon at 4, closing the street for about an hour between Ennis Street and Park Road.

A man was driving down East Bridge street when some passing cars signaled him to pull over, according to Captain Chuck Jarrett of the Westbrook Fire Department. When the driver pulled over, he noticed the fire. He was able to leave the vehicle without injury.

Jarrett said it appeared some insulation between the cab of the van and the engine fell on the engine, igniting the fire. The van was a total loss, Jarrett said.
