Matthew Robinson sat on the town council Tuesday after his election victory prevailed in a recount on Nov. 29.

“I’m just happy with the results. I’ m happy the results stayed,” said Robinson, who was administered the oath of office by Town Clerk Christina Silberman following the recount.

He defeated Norm Justice, the former council chairman who had asked for a recount after narrowly losing the Nov. 6 election by five votes. The town council declared Robinson the winner after Silberman read the recount tally report.

Robinson’s totaled an identical 1,182 votes in both the election and the recount. Justice’s recount tally was 1,174, three less than the Election Day figure.

The town council convened at 8 a.m. Thursday in a special meeting for the recount and recessed until 6:15 p.m. to hear results. Silberman and Bill Dale, town attorney, conducted the day-long recount.

Total town costs of the recount were unavailable Tuesday.

Matthew Robinson is now officially at town councilor in Gorham.
