The Bonny Eagle boys and girls indoor track teams both came out victorious Saturday in meets against Gorham and Windham.
In the afternoon, the Bonny Eagle girls amassed 102 points in their meet, with Gorham second with 62 and Windham third with 30 points.
The Scots dominated from the get-go with Lindsay Somerset taking the junior shot put with a throw of 27-3. Teammate Ashley Usher was third in the event. In the senior shot put, the Scots took first, third and fourth. Winning the event with a throw of 29-8 was Lauren Wallace. Jenessa Plummer was third and Alayna MacDonald was fourth. Windham’s Kirsten Lowell finished second in the senior shot put.
In the high jump, the Scots swept the top two spots. Stephanie Stockwell and teammate Lindsay Dyer both cleared the bar at 4-10. Gorham’s Leigh Maniscalco placed third at 4-8.
The Scots continued their dominance in the two mile run. Lauren Dudley won the race in 12:15.50. That was more than 35 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
Sarah Ferry took the junior hurdles in 7.1 seconds ahead of Windham’s Reilly Sullivan and Gorham’s Solange Carpenter. In the senior hurdles, it was another Bonny Eagle win. Katlyn Gardiner won the event with Windham’s Vanessa Rallis taking second followed by Stockwell.
The junior 40-yard dash ended the same way, with the Scots on top. Morgan Costa won in 5.2 seconds to pace a sweep of the top three spots by the Scots. Melissa Carrier won the senior 40 for Bonny Eagle ahead of Maniscalco and Gorham’s Alyson Fearon.
The first event of the day not won by the Scots was the 600-meter run. Carpenter won for Gorham in 1:40.10. Erika Glidden was second for the Scots with Kimberly Dubois third. Maniscalco picked up the Rams’ second win in the 300 meters.
Sullivan won the first event for the Eagles when she took the junior 400 in 1:06.60. Bonny Eagle finished second and fourth, securing valuable points. Rallis took the senior 400 and the Eagles had two straight race wins.
But the Scots got back to their winning ways in the junior 200. Costa placed first in 28.4 seconds with teammate Sarah Ferry coming in second. Usher completed the sweep of the top three spots for the Scots. Fearon took the senior 200 in 29 seconds. Carrier and Gardiner were second and third for Bonny Eagle.
Rachel Wilkinson won the junior 800-meter run in 2:27.50 for the Rams. Kelsey Rex was second for Gorham. Sarah McCullough took the senior 800 for Gorham in 2:35.10 to lead another Rams sweep of the top two positions.
The Scots took the junior relay with Gorham finishing second and Windham third. Gorham took the senior relay followed by the Scots. Bonny Eagle won the open relay with the Rams placing second and the Eagles third.
Earlier in the day at the boys’ meet, the Scots took an early lead and held on for the win, finishing the day with 84 points. Gorham was second with 74 and Windham was third with 30.
Adam Hawkes and John Phinney gave the Rams the first lead of the day by taking first and second in the junior shot put. Hawkes won the event with a throw of 36-6. The Scots grabbed their first lead in the senior shot put. Ricky Hoyt won the event for Bonny Eagle with a throw of 41-4. Teammates Jake Waterman and John Ames were second and third.
Patrick Ciez won the high jump for the second week in a row clearing the bar at an even six feet. Brett Walker was second for the Rams and Adam Linden was third for the Eagles. After the high jump, Gorham and Bonny Eagle were tied for the lead in the meet with 12 points apiece. Windham was in a close third with nine.
The Scots took the lead for good in the two-mile run. Tim Belanger won the race in 10:37.20. Teammate Mitchell Keith was second, Gorham’s Foster Blake was third and Nate Martin was fourth for Bonny Eagle.
Ciez claimed the junior hurdles in 6.5 seconds followed by Jon Foster of Gorham. The Scots picked up every point available in the senior hurdles, with Jamie Ruginski winning the race in six seconds flat. Nick Winslow was second, followed by Jon Simard and Noah Schoneberg. After the senior hurdles, the Scots had 33 points followed by Gorham with 17 and Windham with 16.
Cam Stevens won the junior 40 for Gorham with Bonny Eagle’s Cam Eastman right behind. Duncan Allen took the senior 40 for the Rams in 4.8 seconds. Caleb Gosselin was second for the Scots with teammate Khamla Mickelson third.
Windham picked up some points by winning the junior 300. The Rams were second and fourth with Bonny Eagle taking third. Allen won the senior 300 with his teammates right behind him in second and third. By this time, the Rams cut Bonny Eagle’s lead down to two points.
Stevens won the 200-meter dash with Gosselin second and Mickelson third, allowing the Scots to cling to a narrow lead. Ruginski took the 400 meters with teammate Mao Ye coming in third. Thanks to second and fourth place points, the Rams only trailed by five points.
Joey Collins won the junior 600 for Bonny Eagle, but the Scots couldn’t pad their lead because Jon Foster and Isiah Lapid finished second and third. Schoneberg won the senior 600 Mike Greatorex and Dexter Jenks were second and third for Gorham. The Scots clung to a six point lead with four events to go.
Murphy Doughty gave the Scots a boost by winning the 800 in 2:11.20, with teammate Colton Tinker finishing second. The Rams were unable to score any points in the 800. With just the three relays left, the Scots had 76 points followed by Gorham with 61 and Windham with 27.
Gorham won the junior relay with Windham placing second. That cut the Bonny Eagle lead down to 10 points. The Rams then won the senior relay with Bonny Eagle in second. Bonny Eagle’s second place finish clinched the meet win. The Scots then went on to win the open relay to secure the victory.
