The University of Southern Maine police department is continuing an investigation of an attack by three men on a female student at the Gorham campus last week.
Judie O’Malley, a spokeswoman for the university, said the student, who was walking at around 9:15 p.m. on Jan. 29 between Upton/Hastings Hall, which is a dorm, and the tennis courts, was approached by three men. O’Malley said the three were wearing sweatshirts with hoods pulled up. The female student was pushed against a brick wall and one of the men made inappropriate comments to her.
The student was able to escape without physical injury, O’Malley said.
The name of the female student has not been released.
One of the three men was described as about 6 feet 1 inch or 6 feet 2 inches tall, with dark hair and dark eyes.
Gorham Police Chief Ron Shepard said university police sent his department information about the incident, but the university is handling the investigation. But Shepard said Gorham police are “on the lookout.”
The university alerted all students, faculty and staff about the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to contact USM police at 780-5211.
