The Westbrook Fire Department has encouraged residents to clear snow and ice from all their home exits after storms.

In the event of emergency, a door not normally used may be unaccessible. According to the department, in a typical house, people use the door by their kitchen, where 46 percent of all structure fires start, requiring people to use their front door.
