Seventeen Gorham High School junior and senior boys will compete this week for a title, along with bragging rights, in what’s called the “Mr. GHS Pageant.”

A faculty panel of five, unnamed as a surprise, will judge the pageant at 7 p.m. Friday in the McCormack Performing Arts Center at Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave.

Contestants will be evaluated in three categories – casual wear, formal wear and interview and talent. Teachers Stacey Mulrey and Kate Riker are faculty advisers for the pageant. The contestants have volunteered and no one has been eliminated. “No one was signed up under duress,” Riker said.

The event is a fundraiser for the junior-senior prom. Area businesses donate prizes for the winner and two runners-up. Riker said a $250 scholarship was awarded to the pageant winner last year.

Tickets are $5 and $3 for students, and are available at the door.
