Central Maine Power company reported 61,274 customers without electricity statewide at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
At 5 p.m., the Portland service area had 4.500; Alfred service area, 5,360; and 106 in the Bridgton area.
Gail Rice, a spokeswoman for the utility, said tree limbs on wires caused the outages. ‘We’ve got all available crews working on it,” Rice said.
Communities with outages include Acton, Alfred, Cornish, Hiram, Hollis, Lebanon, Limerick, Limington, Lyman, Newfield, Parsonsfield, Saco, Sanford, Shapleaigh, Standish and Waterboro in the Alfred service area. In the Portland area, towns experiencing outages include Buxton, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gorham, North Yarmouth, Portland, Standish and Windham. Outages in the Bridgton area include Bridgton, Casco, Gray, Naples, Raymond. Sebago and Standish.
Rice said the company has been advised by weather forecasters to expect up to a half inch of ice on wires.
