The Gorham Business & Civic Exchange’s 11th Annual Marketplace 2008! is Saturday, March 15. “We have over 80 vendors so far,” Trish Moulton, chairperson said. “Vendors registrations will be accepted through March 10th. ” This event is free to the public.
Marketplace 2008! show cases quality products and services available in the Gorham area. Every year thousands of “shoppers” visit USM’s Costello Field House to sample food, enjoy local talent, sign up for vendor’s prizes, receive cost savings on show specials, and have a chance to win lots of money! “The theme this year is “springtime,” so there will be lots of reasons to get out of the house, “shed” cabin fever and attend,” Trish continued.
This year we have Abbra Kadabra, the Magician, D.J. Dave Winsor, from 99.9 The WOLF, and you can meet Miss Teen Maine, Avery Baar, who’s from Gorham, among other local talent. The Joan Kennedy Band will start playing at 1.
There are two stages, one for performing artists, is near the Food Court, so people can sit and watch the show while they eat. The second stage, near the Grand Prize Giveaway area, features vendors who wish to demonstrate their products or services. “Cookie Lee Jewelry, ABBA Video Productions and Parties ‘n Stuff, are just a few of the businesses who will be demonstrating.
Again this year there will be the popular “Price is Right” game with contestants “coming on down” to play and win prizes from featured businesses. Back again also, is the popular “Kid’s Area” with all kinds of fun activities for children including 4 bounce houses, “I-Spy” game, and much more.
The teen area will have Guitar Hero, Dance Revolution, and Wii games available. Local restaurants, Amato’s, Sebago Brewing Co, The Gorham Grind and Mr. Bagel will offer their wares.
These activities, along with the “Big Money” prizes encourage people to stay all day. There will be three cash drawings and you have to be present to win. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. with opening flag procession and continues all day until 3:00.
