Robotics mentor honored
Mike Matthews, Bonny Eagle robotics team mentor, was presented the Woodie Flowers Award at the recent competition in Manchester, N.H.
Since the beginning of the program, Matthews has displayed his ability as a teacher for both beginners and veterans.
“I have been a mentor involved in the FIRST Robotics program for a total of 12 years (1996 -2008). We started the program at Parker Nichols Portland Divisions in Portland from 1996 to 2000 and then moved it to Eagle Industries in Hollis from 2000 to 2008,” Matthews said.
Explorer, author to speak
The Maine School Administrative District 6 elementary librarians are pleased to host an evening with Pam Flowers Thursday, April 17, in the Bonny Eagle High School auditorium.
Pam Flowers is a record-breaking arctic explorer and author who will share a PowerPoint presentation and stories from her solo 2,500-mile dog mushing expedition across the Arctic from Barrow, Alaska to Repulse Bay, Canada.
Books will be for sale and flowers will be available to autograph them from 6:30 p.m.-7 p.m., and the presentation will follow 7 p.m.-8 p.m.
Audiences will hear about intense blizzards that kept her stranded for days, melting ice packs literally breaking up beneath her and the team, a terrifying run-in with polar bears and more.
The presentation was made possible by a grant from the Narragansett No. 1 Foundation.
