Gov. John Baldacci, left, presents an award for excellence in service learning to, in back from left, Wescott Junior High School health teacher Travis Jalbert and seventh-graders Caitlyn Waldron, Samantha Nealey, Morgan Maxwell, Allison Charlton and Katie Clark and, in front from left, Ben Touchette, Scott Kirkpatrick and Kim Duong. For their service learning project, the students made videos to promote awareness about the dangers of alcohol and tobacco use. They used skits, songs and statistics to get their message across. According to Jalbert, the idea for the project came completely from the students, who traveled to Augusta Tuesday, where the governor acknowledged them, along with students from 13 other schools in the state.
