The photo on the left shows the old Cumberland Mills train station in the early 1900s. The building behind it in the distance is the old Railroad Hotel, still standing at 15 Rochester St. and currently an apartment house. This station was a one time a very busy place with three or more passenger trains a day passing through, along with several freight trains. Westbrook also had a train station located downtown. As railroad transportation gradually declined, these stations were closed. The Portland Terminal Co. was the next occupant of this building, downsizing it to fit its needs of providing service to freight trains traveling from the Rigby Yard in South Portland to New Hampshire and back. Local freight trains servicing the S. D. Warren Co. also used this rail line. The Cumberland Mills station eventually was sold, and the E.A. Burns Fencing Co. presently occupies it. The photo on the right shows the station as it stands today. The large building behind it is the R. G. Eaton Woodworks building, located on Rochester Street.
