Hundreds of soldiers from the 133rd Engineer Combat Battalion, based in Westbrook, could be deployed to Iraq in 2010.

Maj. Gen. John W. Libby, adjutant general of the Maine National Guard, announced Monday some 500 soldiers in the 133rd Engineer Combat Battalion of the Maine Army National Guard were identified for a possible deployment, though the specific dates, location and mission details have not yet been determined.

Members of the battalion were already deployed in 2004 to northern Iraq, where they completed more than 900 engineer missions and received the Meritorious Unit Commendation by the Department of Defense.

The 133rd Engineer Battalion is composed of the following units that are affected by the potential deployment: 262nd Engineer Co., 136th Engineer Co., 133rd Forward Support Co., 1035th Survey Section and the 133rd Engineer Headquarters. The units are stationed across Maine.
