The Westbrook Planning Board will hold a public hearing and take a vote Tuesday on the contract zone for Stroudwater Place, the 1.6-million-square-foot retail center proposed for Stroudwater Street.
The vote Tuesday will be a recommendation to the City Council on whether to approve the contract zone proposed by Jason Snyder and his design team for the project, which promises to include high-end retail stores, a farmers market, restaurants and recreation areas.
Last week, the board recommended the council approve amendments to the city’s comprehensive plan, including a decrease in required open space and an increase in allowable density, in order for the project to move forward.
Over the past several months, the Planning Board has been looking at the contract zone in detail, discussing the types of uses that should be allowed, the setback requirements, the buffering between the project and its abutters, design guidelines and the phasing of the project’s construction.
According to City Administrator Jerre Bryant, the City Council will likely first consider the Planning Board’s recommendations at a Committee of the Whole meeting in September.
The Planning Board’s public hearing on the contract zone will be held in Room 114 at Westbrook High School at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
