A fire destroyed a Gorham man’s home this morning, despite the efforts of fire crews from Gorham, Standish and Buxton who fought the blaze.

Crews responded to 3 Farrington Road, the home of Jim Appertier, 62, shortly before 9 a.m. Firefighters had the blaze under control by just after 10 a.m., but smoke still billowed from the gutted, single-wide green trailer.

No one was injured in the fire.

Gorham Fire Chief Robert Lefebvre said the fire’s cause was not known and that he didn’t have any more information as of 10:20 this morning.

Appertier, who works at Scarborough Downs, was not home when the fire started. He said he fears his cat might be dead, and he searched for his pet shortly after arriving at the house.

“All I can think of is my cat right now,” he said. “That’s the only thing going through my mind.”
