Westbrook Police arrested a man wanted for several area burglaries Friday.

Daniel Murphy, 27, of Brackett Street, had been eluding Westbrook Police, as well as other police departments. Westbrook Police found him at around 9:30 a.m. Friday, hiding in the basement of a Saco Street home.

Murphy was arrested on warrants from the Portland Police Department for three charges of theft and charges of burglary, burglary to a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, operating after being declared a habitual offender and violation of conditions of release.

A teenager was also arrested at the Saco Street residence on a warrant charge and a felony charge of hindering apprehension, by hiding Murphy.

Police say they will continue to investigate a string of commercial and residential burglaries that occurred in the city.
