First, I want to congratulate Ann Peoples for her re-election to District 125 the Maine House of Representatives. Ann works hard for our city and I respect and congratulate her on the many years of public service. To some of you, the following comments may be misunderstood as sour grapes. I assure you this is not the case. It is important everyone understand the impact of your vote on future taxation.

I hate to include Rep. Peoples in this next comment, but it applies to all returning legislators who supported the legislation that initiated the beverage tax. Westbrook voters rejected the beverage tax, 5,787 to 2,829. Better than a 2-1 margin. At the same time, they sent the same folks back to Augusta who initiated the tax.

If Westbrook and Maine residents are tired of taxes, sending the same people back to Augusta is not the answer.
