In the early 1970s, the Men’s Shop expanded its line of merchandise to include ladies’ attire and expanded into the building next to it on Main Street at Fitch Street. This building had been recently vacated by Coastal Finance Co., and was at one time occupied by the West End Drug Company. In 1977, the Men’s Shop moved into a new building and these two buildings were slated for demolition. On Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 1978, a fire of undetermined origin destroyed the buildings. The CVS Pharmacy now occupies the site.
