Tree fest begins soon

Westbrook’s 8th annual Festival of Trees kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 29, with breakfast with Santa at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church.

The festival will continue through Dec. 6 at the Main Street church, where decorated trees will be on display for the public, free of charge.

Individuals and organizations pay $100 to sponsor and the trees holiday trees, decorated with the theme of their choice.

All profits for the festival will go to the Westbrook Food Pantry, the Good Samaritan Fund, which benefits Westbrook residents who need help with their heating oil, and church expenses.

Other features of the even include a feast, a hay ride, two tea parties, a church service, a choral performance and a railroad display. All events are free except for the Festival Feast and the Tips for Charity Luncheon. Donations are welcomed.

Food drive

Lollipop Lane Educare is sponsoring its second annual “Fill the bus, feed the familes” food drive on Saturday.

Donations can be taken to school buses parked at the corner of Main Street and Larrabee Road. All food will be taken to local food pantries.

Plummer, Gribbon engaged

Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Plummer announced the engagement of their daughter, Mara B. Plummer,

to Barry Gribbon, the son of Francis and Kathy Gribbon of Bronx, N.Y.

Mara Plummer is a graduate of Westbrook High School, Marist College and Mercy College, where she received her master’s degree in special education. She is employed by

New York City Schools, MS 144, Michael Angelo Middle School in the Bronx.

Barry Gribbon is a graduate of St. Raymond’s High School for Boys, Long Island University and Mercy College, where he received his master’s degree in education. He is employed by New York City Schools, PS 68, The Edward A. Fogel School for Critical Thinking and the Arts in the Bronx.

The wedding will take place in Maine on Oct. 10.

Seniors to meet

Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, at Millbrook Estates, 300 East Bridge St.

A Maine author, Ann Brahn, will be the guest speaker.

The seniors will dine at DiMillo’s Restaurant in Portland on Jan. 15 before seeing “Le Cage Aux Folles” at Portland Players.

Sky to speak

Rabbi Harry Sky will speak at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 719 Main St.

It will be Sky’s third appearance this fall in the pulpit at the church. He is rabbi emeritus at Temple Beth El in Portland.
