The city of Westbrook offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Plummer, Gribbon engaged

Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Plummer are please to announce the engagement of their daughter, Mara B. Plummer,

to Barry Gribbon, the son of Francis and Kathy Gribbon of Bronx, N.Y.

Mara Plummer is a graduate of Westbrook High School, Marist College and Mercy College, where she received her master’s degree in special education. She is employed by New York City Schools, MS 144, Michael Angelo Middle School in the Bronx.

Barry Gribbon is a graduate of St. Raymond’s High School for Boys, Long Island University and Mercy College, where he received his master’s degree in education. He is employed by New York City Schools, PS 68, The Edward A. Fogel School for Critical Thinking and the Arts in the Bronx.

The wedding will take place in Maine on October 10, 2009.

Born studies in New Zealand

Erik Born, son of Greg and Jan Born, is spending a semester abroad at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Born is a science and math double major in his junior year at Bates College in Lewiston.

Jan Born said her son chose the University of Auckland for his semester abroad for its strong math and science departments “to ensure challenging academics while he enjoys the beauty of New Zealand.”

Underground quilt historian’s topic

Betty Winslow will present a program about an underground railroad quilt when the Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 17 Dunn St.

Winslow is the immediate past president of Windham Historical Society.

The program is free and the public is invited.
