Westbrook hosted and took fifth place in Saturday’s Westbrook Invitational wrestling tournament. Bonny Eagle placed third in the meet.
Massabesic won with 198 points, followed by Cony (140), Bonny Eagle (134), Mt. Ararat (110), Westbrook (106), Mountain Valley (62.5), Deering (54.5), Winslow (44), Sanford (34), Scarborough (25) and Lawrence (3).
Two Bonny Eagle wrestlers were also recognized as the outstanding wrestlers of the meet. Ryan Cook, who won at 125 pounds with an 8-6 decision over Massabesic’s Ethan Norwald, was named outstanding lightweight wrestler. Stephen Martin, who pinned Mt Ararat’s Zach Chandler in 3:29 to win at 171, was named outstanding heavyweight wrestler.
Westbrook’s Andrew Drouin won at 215 pounds via a pin. The Blue Blazes had several other wrestlers place in the top-four in their divisions: Cody Payer was third at 103, Glenn Emery was fourth at 112, Marcus Dickson was fourth at 119, Craig DiBiase was third at 125, Zach Huggard was fourth at 140, Harrison Strondak was second at 152, Steve Sawyer was fourth at 171 and Dustin Allen was fourth at 285.
Bonny Eagle also got a win from Dalton Groeger at 119. Pat Gallant of the Scots was fourth at 130, Tyler Murray was fourth at 145, Thomas Gregg was third at 152, Kevin Kinahan was fourth at 160 and Josh Lund was third at 215.
Westbrook kicked off the regular season on Tuesday night with a 54-15 home win over Kennebunk. Winning for the Blazes were Payer (103), Emery (112), Dickson (119), Ben Arsenault (125), Cole Larrivee (135), Huggard (140), Strondak (152), Terry Webber (160), Sawyer (171) and Drouin (215).
