The photo on the left shows Brackett Street when it connected to Main Street. The building partially visible on the left was the Westbrook Congregational Church. The building partially visible on the right was the front of the Brackett Block, which later became known as the LaFond Block after the store that occupied the building for many years. All of the buildings on Brackett Street between Main Street and Wayside Drive (now William Clarke Drive), with the exception of the old post office, were demolished.
This portion of Brackett Street was discontinued and a mall occupies the site, shown in photo at right. The old post office is now occupied by a credit union.
