Police are investigating a suspicious death in Westbrook that occurred early Sunday.

At around 1:15 a.m., Westbrook police responded to a call for a medical emergency on Rochester Street, where they found a man dead in the street from what was described as a traumatic wound.

Police have not released any further details on the suspected cause of death. A secure crime scene has been set up on Rochester Street. Maine State Police have been called to the scene and an active investigation is under way.

According to police, it is believed the victim is a 25-year-old man from Naples. Police are not releasing any further information on the victim until the identification is verified and relatives notified.

Police are actively interviewing witnesses and asked anyone with information to call the Westbrook police at 854-0644, ext. 1.

Westbrook police confirmed that there is no danger to the public arising out of this incident.
