The Westbrook School Committee has selected a new superintendent to replace Stan Sawyer, who is retiring at the end of this school year.
Colleen Hilton, vice chairwoman of the School Committee, said the new superintendent will not be named until a meeting Tuesday.
“I think it’s fair to say that the candidate we selected was the predominant pick” of those who interviewed the candidates, Hilton said. “We’re very excited.”
The School Committee took over the superintendent selection process last weekend from the search committee, which had narrowed a field of 15 qualified candidates down to four.
The candidate was selected after going through interviews with the School Committee and representatives from the school administration.
Sawyer will retire after 10 years as superintendent of Westbrook schools.
The new superintendent will be named at a meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 114 at Westbrook High School.
Following the meeting, the School Committee and the City Council will hold a joint workshop on the school department’s 2009-2010 budget in the culinary arts room at the Westbrook Regional Vocational Center.
