Westbrook waters just ducky
Eric Hynes, staff naturalist at the Audubon Society in Falmouth, reported last week that a rare duck native to Europe was still being spotted in the Presumpscot River in Westbrook.
The male tufted duck, only the third ever documented by a photo in Maine, was first seen in early January in the river and bird watchers traveled from afar to see it. Speculation is that the tufted duck was blown off course in a storm and sought refuge in the open water both above and below the downtown falls.
