Good habits make good neighbors. If you ask the guy on the street what makes a good neighbor, he might say, “good neighbors respect other people’s property” or “good neighbors are considerate and don’t bother others” or “good neighbors are helpful.”
That’s why I am shocked at claims by Pike Industries in newspaper ads and a letter they sent about what a “good neighbor” they are. Setting off blasts that crack walls and foundations isn’t respectful of other people’s properties. Operating a rock crusher that is loud and spews dust into the air isn’t considerate of other people’s ears and lungs. Putting hundreds of heavy dump trucks filled with rock on busy streets doesn’t help the flow of traffic.
Isn’t it funny that not one neighbor – business or resident – of Pike’s Spring Street quarry or the Main Street quarry/asphalt factory has come forward to support Pike’s “good neighbor” claim?
