The search is on for a new Bonny Eagle High boys varsity basketball coach after Rick Simonds resigned from the position.

The opening is currently being advertised and athletic director Mike LeGage said he hopes to interview potential candidates later this month. Citing school district policy, LeGage said he was not able to comment on Simonds’ reason for stepping down.

Simonds coached the Scots for six seasons. During the past winter, Bonny Eagle finished the regular season at 6-12 and lost to Portland in a Western Maine Class A prelim game. Simonds, an English teacher at Bonny Eagle, previously coached the men’s basketball team at St. Joseph’s College in Standish for more than 20 years.
