The University of New England’s Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition has announced its ninth annual Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days program, aimed at motivating people to get and stay active, as well as promoting physical and mental health wellness through walking. This self-paced program starts June 15 and runs through Sept. 22.

Walkers need to keep track of how far they walk, each time they walk. The goal is to have all walks during the 100-day period add up to at least 100 miles. New this year is a conversion chart that allows participants to include other forms of physical activity towards walking miles. Each walker will receive a log card to record mileage. Incentive prizes will be distributed to all who reach the 100-mile goal. Last year more than 320 people participated in the program.

Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition is a community-based health promotion coalition working to promote tobacco and substance abuse prevention, healthy nutrition and physical activity in the communities, schools and work sites of Arundel, Biddeford, Buxton, Dayton, Hollis, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach and Saco. Anyone living or working in these communities is invited to participate in this walking program.
